Food is an everyday aspect of life, but how much do we know about the origins of our favorite recipes & modern eating habits?
As a research space, The Memory of Cuisine will try to uncover elements of food that are often overlooked. This blog is a learning space for everyone including myself. Comments, feedback, & suggestions are very much appreciated! I’m using this blog to get better at writing, anthropological research, & sharing a bit about myself along the way. See the “Contact” page to get in touch with me about the blog!
In the future, I hope to research food and the culture surrounding food on a global scale. At the moment, I’m unsure about many aspects of this type of research: which region to start with, how I can apply anthropological concepts to studying food, & even understanding why food is a dominant aspect in many cultures. Currently, I plan to uncover culinary aspects of Indian culture since that’s what I’m most familiar with, but I hope to research other cultures soon!
About the Author
I’m Sanjana Pandeti, a South Indian-American Anthropology student studying in Amsterdam. Cooking & baking are fond passions of mine. I’ve always felt somewhat disconnected from my culture & am hoping this space will help me better connect with my Indian culture through food. Additionally, I hope this space will help other Indian people with similar backgrounds feel more comfortable exploring Indian culture!
